Nothing OS 2.0 beta is now available for Nothing Phone 1 users. The update brings a number of new features and improvements, including Material You design, privacy dashboard, new widgets, and improved performance.
Nothing OS 2.0 is the latest update for the proprietary Android skin that was launched with the Nothing Phone (2) in July 2023.
The update brings several new cosmetic and functional changes to the phone while maintaining its ultra-clean aesthetic and bloat-free nature. The software is still based on Android 13, so it does not include any new Android 14 features yet.
Here is a quick look at Nothing OS 2.0’s Features:
One of the most noticeable changes in Nothing OS 2.0 is the introduction of monochrome icons for all the apps on the phone. The icons have a minimalist design that matches the aesthetic of Nothing OS and eliminates the distractions caused by different brands’ colorful logos.
Lock Screen Widgets
Another new feature in Nothing OS 2.0 is the support for lock screen widgets. Users can now add up to eight quick settings widgets and two lock screen shortcuts to their lock screen, which can be accessed without unlocking the phone. For example, users can add widgets for weather, music, calendar, flashlight, and more to their lock screen.
Home Screen Layout Customization
Nothing OS 2.0 also allows users to customize their home screen layout according to their preferences. App grid sizes can be adjusted, labels can be shown or hidden, Google search can be shown or hidden, and icon shapes and sizes can be modified. Nothing’s dot matrix branding allows users to create app folders and assign different types of illustrations to them.
Built-in App Locker
One of the most requested features by smartphone users is a native app locker that can protect their apps from unauthorized access. Nothing OS 2.0 fulfills this demand by adding a built-in app locker feature that lets users lock any app behind a password, pattern, or fingerprint.
Another useful feature in Nothing OS 2.0 is the cloned apps feature that lets users run multiple instances of the same app on their phones. For example, if you have two different social media accounts, you can create two clones of the same social media app and use each clone to sign in to a different account.
To create a cloned app, simply open the Settings app and go to Apps & Notifications > See all apps. Then, find the app that you want to clone and tap on it. Tap on the Clone app button and follow the on-screen instructions.
